Creating a belt design that is classy and elegant yet at the same time has its own distinctive character is always an interesting challenge. There is a delicate balance to be struck between detail that enhances and detail that distracts. So when we came up with our new 'Hancock' style, named after ground-breaking jazz artist Herbie Hancock, we were inspired to keep things minimal with just a hint of contemporary style to show that sense of individuality. We started out using our cordovan effect leather which even in this black colour once hand burnished reveals a subtle tonality, and then under the surface inserted sleek S shaped ridges which we have highlighted by embellishing with their own stitch detail. These ridges repeat along the strap every 25cms to break up the uniformity of the surface and subtly add extra life to the belt. We feel that this belt could be used for both formal and smart casual occasions - great for a suit, smart trousers or denim.
